"Why all the fuss about backup?
Chances are you have a lot of important stuff on your computer like financial documents, email, digital photos, music and more. Unfortunately, computers are vulnerable to hard drive crashes, virus attacks, theft and natural disasters, which can erase everything in an instant."

ShoveBox for Mac & iPhone
"ShoveBox for Mac catches all those little scraps of information that you can't act on now but would rather not forget. It sits up in your menubar, waiting for you to drag in text, images, URLs, and more.
It also provides a sensible interface to sort everything you shoved. It's all about spending less time processing and more time actually working on the things that matter."
System Requirements:
Mac OS X 10.4 or higher.
ShoveBox for iPhone: Capture, view, organize, and edit data on-the-go. And sync wirelessly with your Mac. Use it to take web archives with you on the train to read offline, or take field notes for later review.
ShoveBox for iPhone puts the power of the desktop version in your pocket.
System Requirements:
Requires an iPhone or iPod Touch with iPhone OS v3.1 or higher.

Mini vMac for Mac OS X
"The goal of the Mini vMac project is to help preserve software made for early Macintoshemulators that allow such software to be used on modern computers. The first member of this family emulates the Macintosh Plus.
Mini vMac began in 2001 as a spin off of the program vMac. It was originally intended to be of limited interest, a simpler version to serve as a programmers introduction to vMac. But vMac hasn’t been updated in many years, so Mini vMac may now be considered its continuation.
The “Mini” in the name now means that each emulator in the family is as small and simple as possible. The meta program and data that generate the emulators (the Mini vMac build system) is rather bigger. Besides the Macintosh Plus, there are also emulations of the Macintosh 128K, 512K, 512Ke, SE, Classic, and SE FDHD. Work is in progress on Macintosh II emulation. There are also numerous other options.

Mini vMac requires a ROM image file to run, and so can be legally used only by those who own a 680x0 based Macintosh. This leads to the question, if you need to own the real computer to use it, what is the use of the emulator? First, a real Macintosh won’t last forever. It is common for the power supply to fail. It is still legal to use the emulation after the real computer breaks. And second, the emulation is more convenient than the real thing. It is much faster (on modern computers) and you can use a better screen, keyboard, and mouse. And it is easier to transfer files between the modern computer and the emulator."
Downloads are available for Mac os8, os9 and Mac OS X, Windows, Linux and more.

Alice in Mac OS X Land
Alice in the Wonderland of Mac OS X...
" Aspyr Media has released a Universal Binary patch of a game it first shipped in 2001—American McGee’s Alice. It’s an M-rated third-person shooter that caused a stir when it was first introduced for its twisted take on Lewis Carroll’s fairy tale classic, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

The game was crafted using the Quake III Arena engine and features a custom soundtrack created by Chris Vrenna, former drummer of Nine Inch Nails."

Blu-ray Disc: New Format, New Size
The high capacity (25/50 GB) of the Blu-ray optical disc system in the same size as a CD/DVD is very encouraging, and with about twice the capacity of the HD-DVD system that was released on April 18 I can't see how this won't be the choice to replace DVDs.

Guest PC: Virtual x86 for Mac
Guest PC is a virtual x86 computer for your Mac.
"It is virtual, it has no separate monitor, mouse, keyboard or hard drive. It is just a Mac OS X program that allows you to install the Microsoft Windows operating system on your Mac and use the software developed only for Windows compatible computers.
Guest PC works just like a usual application and you can easily switch between Windows and Mac OS X desktops at will."
No need for two separate computers!

Alice in MacWorld 1982
"You've got to see the new game that Steve Capps wrote", he told me while he was connecting his hard drive up to my Lisa.

The screen turned black and then, after a few seconds delay, a three dimensional chess board in exaggerated perspective filled most of the screen. On the rear side of the board was a set of small, white chess pieces, in their standard positions. Suddenly, pieces started jumping into the air, in long, slow parabolic arcs, growing larger as they got closer. ..

It ran even better on the Mac than the Lisa, since the Mac's faster processor enabled smoother animation.
Steve Jobs didn't play Alice very much, but he was duly impressed by the obvious programming skill it took to create it. "Who is this Capps guy? Why is he working on the Lisa?", he said as soon as he saw the program, mentioning Lisa with a hint of disdain. "We've got to get him onto the Mac team!"
Unfortunately, Apple never put the promised marketing effort into Alice. They were in a quandary because the market didn't understand the graphical user interface as a productivity enhancement yet; graphics meant games, so the Mac had to live down an initial reputation as being unsuitable for business tasks. Apple didn't exactly want to promote a game for the Mac at the time, no matter how sensational, so Alice never quite reached as wide an audience as it deserved.

Sony BMG DRM "Virus" on CDs

DownloadComment Safari Plugin
Another great Mac app from Ecamm Network:
I installed the new DownloadComment v 1.1 and it works absolutely perfectly.
"When you download things in Safari, DownloadComment will put the original URL into the saved file's Spotlight Comments. Now you'll always know where your downloads came from. Keep track of where your downloads came from. The Comments field can be accessed in the Finder by choosing to "Get Info" on a file.
This functionality was part of most browsers on OS 9 but is missing from Safari. DownloadComment brings it back. "
New in v1.1 : Now works with Safari 2.0 and OS X 10.4. Comment is now added to files saved using the Save As menu option or contextual menu.
System Requirements:
PPC or Intel
Safari 1.2 and higher
